Movie Review – In Crossroads, a Story of Forgiveness, Dean Cain Proves He Doesn’t Need a Cape to Fly

Being a writer, it was only natural to merge my love of movies with my work and write movie reviews. That actually began my freelance career many years ago. And I have watched thousands of movies. I am known to view favorite movies dozens of times or more. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen Princess Bride, or Cary Grant and Irene Dunne’s My Favorite Wife…but I digress…

My personal movie tastes are varied, and my satisfaction is not necessarily dependent on typical “good movie” standards. I’m forgiving of what some may call flaws, errors, substandards, story holes, weak plots, campy acting or predictability. My main criteria is basic: does the movie engross me, hold my attention, stay with me and most importantly, entertain me? If I answer yes, then it’s a good movie. It’s simple.

Now, to my main point. Dean Cain’s performance in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, Crossroads: A Story of Forgiveness, engrossed me. I was pulled into the performance of Dean Cain. There is something about the sadness he so richly portrayed that is staying with me. I didn’t want to take my eyes off of the scenes that he appeared in. For two hours, I sat entertained. I think Mr. Cain was terrific, and a great fit for this role. I can’t imagine anyone else playing the part.

Was the movie itself good? I enjoyed it. Was it well directed? I stayed involved and forgot I was watching TV for a couple hours. How about the plot? It moved along and held my interest. I cared about the characters, good and bad. Any negatives? After it ended, I knew I would want to see it again, and hope to get it on DVD when it becomes available. Was it perfect? Perfection is boring. Movies are art, and craft, and fantasy. They shouldn’t ever be perfect…they should just be enjoyed! So, what’s my opinion? It’s simple. I had fun…it was good.

Salt Movie Review

Angelina Jolie stars as the CIA operative Evelyn Salt. Evelyn’s life is all rosy until a Russian from her past comes back to haunt her. She is one of the CIA’s top agents but her world is turned upside down when she is accused of being a double agent.

Without going to much into the plot of this story I pretty much had worked out what was going to happen all the way through the movie and probably predicted the ending about 15 minutes into the film, Having said that if you take this movie at face value it isn’t that bad.

I thought this movie was going to be a typical summer blockbuster with big explosions, fast car chances, impressive stunts and good fight scenes, I was wrong. This film was marketed as a fast paced action movie and while it does have some redeeming moments it doesn’t have enough of them. There are very little fight scenes, a small car chase which involves a lot of jumping from one truck to another and a few scenes with some guns going off in the background.

Overall as an action movie it pretty much fails simply because there isn’t enough in the film to keep it going. Some of the twists in the movie are pretty good but I think their made very easy to guess what is going to happen next and because of this the movie is spoiled a little once again.
